MAY 22ND MEETING:

“Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and

Ellis Spear: Life Sketches of

20th Maine Officers”

Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was remembered as the hero of Gettysburg for leading the famous bayonet charge that saved Little Round Top for the Union Army. Ellis Spear was the Captain of the 20th Maine Regiment. They were comrades, friends, and part of history together.

Michael Green and Michael Hicks will review the personal, military and post-Civil War professional lives of Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain and Ellis Spear, as they portray first-person impressions of these Civil War heroes. You will find their resemblance to these historical personalities uncanny.

Michael Green, who will focus on the military and political accomplishments of Chamberlain, works in private investigations and government security.

Michael Hicks, who will present a more personal focus of Ellis Spear, is a family medicine Physician’s Assistant.

Mr. Green and Mr. Hicks have both been involved in Civil War reenacting for several years in various units of the American Civil War Society, and give personal presentations locally. Mr. Green has been featured at Gettysburg as J. L. Chamberlain during signings of Civil War paintings.

Come join us as we imagine ourselves in the presence of these military personages, and they tell us about their exploits.
