Very few Civil War artifacts
can match the sense of romance and personal connection to the
soldier, like uniforms. They seem to be the fabric embodiment
of the men who wore them, helping to forge a meaningful link between
ourselves and those who fought. Sadly, the passage of time is
making these fragile items increasingly scarce, placing them beyond
contact to the average student of the Civil War.
This month's meeting offers the rare chance for an up-close examination of authentic Civil War uniforms and headgear, normally locked deep inside the display cases of museums. From buglers to major generals, we will see what the soldiers wore, what they liked, and what they didn't.
We are honored to have our very own CWRT member, Mike Sorenson, making a return visit to give us this special presentation. Mike has been a serious Civil War collector since the 1980's. He is a member of the prestigious West Coast Civil War Collectors group. Some of Mike's artifacts were part of a special exhibit on the Cal 100 and Cal Battalion at the Lincoln Shrine in Redlands last year. We are very lucky to have Mike display for us pieces from his collection that will help us to better understand the lives of the soldiers we study.
Mike is a building contracting the San Gabriel Valley, is married and has four children.
Please join us for a memorable opportunity
to view portions of one of Southern California's premier Civil
War collections.
